ANSI and BHMA grade

2of 52 listings print it

Printed as: ANSI Grade 3 · BHMA Grade 3. The listing prints an ANSI or BHMA grade.

What it is

BHMA, the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association, publishes ANSI/BHMA standards for builders hardware. Its page on product grade levels says many of those standards define grade 1, 2, or 3, with grade 1 being the highest, set by progressive levels of performance benchmarks.

ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, describes itself as a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standards and conformity assessment system, founded in 1918, and says it is not itself a standards developing organization.

Who runs it

BHMA, within the ANSI system

BHMA develops the ANSI/BHMA standards and keeps a certified products directory; ANSI coordinates the voluntary standards system those standards belong to.

What it does not promise

  • A grade printed on a listing does not say a lock is secure, and the site does not say so either. It does not compare the grades of different locks or rank any lock against another.
  • Neither listing prints a certificate number or the standard its grade comes from, and the site did not look either model up in BHMA’s directory.

What the lock listings print

The TEEHO prints ANSI Grade 3 and the eufy prints BHMA Grade 3. The Schlage prints certified security with no program or grade named, and the site does not count those words here. The other lock listings print no grade.
