What happens without it
The listings do not say which functions can be reached without the app. Where an app is the only control a listing names, the site says so on the card and goes no further.
What the listings print
The app shows up as app control
on the Govee bulb and the Schlage lock, as app remote control
on the GHome and Linkind plugs and the Philips and eufy locks, and as app support
on the WINIX purifier. None of these listings names the app itself.
Connected, but silent about an app
Eleven listings name Wi-Fi, a band or an assistant and name no app. The Frigidaire dehumidifier is the plainest case: Wi-Fi
in the title, and nothing about how the Wi-Fi is reached.
What published guidance covers
For products that depend on software and a connection, NIST publishes NIST IR 8425, a profile of its IoT cybersecurity baseline for consumer products, dated September 2022. The FTC publishes guidance for makers of connected devices titled Careful Connections. The site links both because they are about this class of product, and it does not grade any listing against either.
